When my wife passed away I became concerned about what would happen to my disabled daughter in the event of my death. I wanted to be sure that what little I have in the way of funds would go to her with minimal impact on any government funds (i.e. Social Security, Medicare) that might become available to her. I was advised to have a "Special Needs Trust" set up for her. I contacted a couple of local attorneys who provided unsatisfactory responses. An acquaintance whose son has the same disability as my daughter provided me with information that led to my contacting Attorney John D'Onofrio. My daughter and I met with John on two occasions and provided him with the necessary legal information. John then promptly provided us with the following legal documents: a Special Needs Trust and a will for my daughter, and for me - a will, a living will and a power of attorney document. In addition, John gave us instructions on how to provide the necessary documents to health care providers and to our bank, where a special account had to be set up for the Special Needs Trust. John is a very congenial person who treated my daughter with respect and courtesy during our two meetings. His office is accessible and attractive and the staff was very kind and helpful.
